Poem: Unbound Restraints
Mood Music: Love in the Future (Intro) by John Legend
One night I actually had a dream that a former partner met me in a dream environment and loosened a necklace from my neck.
I turned that experience into a poem that I do hope you enjoy.
Unbound Restraints
Last night I closed my eyes,
then I opened them to you.
You were no longer this intimating figure,
But just the child I loved,
And I the child who loved you.
You were sitting in a room all alone,
and I started to pass you over and let by-gones be just that,
But something beckoned me inside.
You looked so pensive;
Head hung low, with your back to the door.
As I came closer and stood in your presence,
That same magnetism from years past overtook me,
and the warmth of our old kinship blanketed me.
I played a coy fool with you yesterday,
but today I came before you boldly.
I spilled out my love for you like wine that had been aging since the beginning of time-
Potent and strong.
You looked at me with those knowing brown eyes,
then snatched the heart shaped necklace from my throat.
its sliver chain shone in your bronzed hands,
and a single tear fell from your eye to the ground.
Now I felt naked in a way I’d never been before,
Unadorned with your love.
I placed my hand over yours,
And for a moment we mourned the love of ours that had been fashioned by us link by link,
Now a limp and broken thing in our intertwined hands.
For what felt like forever and not long enough,
You kissed my hand with unreal tenderness,
As my entire soul genuinely ached.
I awoke to this world without you,
You returned to Spirit without me,
I am now free…
