Daily Devotional – Shifting Focus
The car wouldn’t start, you lost your debit card, or your boss yelled at you. Life happens and it’s easy to complain and get frustrated about things that are going amiss in the moment; however, we often forget we have control over our emotions.
One of the “Fruits of the Spirit” is self-control (Galatians 5:22-23) and though it is ok for our initial response to a moment to be somewhat negative, we must learn to reign in our emotions and shift our focus. God wants us to dwell on good things and have joy (Philippians 4:8)!
The next time your emotions get the best of you, reset your focus. Move from frustration to gratitude to God for all the blessings you presently have and will be gifted in the future. Shift your focus from irritation for your situation, to the power God has to change it.
