The fall essentials for basics and babbies alike: leaves, cozy sweaters, a warm scarf, a good pair of Uggs, and all things pumpkin spice flavored.

It has been a joke on social media for years about how basic chicks (that’s the nice word for it) love Fall.
On these memes you will find pictures of Ugg boots, scarves, messy buns, and Pumpkin Spice flavored everything. But I believe that basic females aren’t the only type of people who love Fall. Fall and winter is basically loved by all women and I think I know the reasons why.
Here’s a more psychological, emotional, and scientific perspective on why woman love fall and winter, and how colder months actually keep the human race growing.
Acceptable Weight Gain and Sweaters – Woman, on average, try to maintain a certain weight in the summer, but when a little flab can be hidden under a sweater or cardigan weight gain will ensue. A little weight on a slim to normal weight woman is actually a good thing, because it can aid in regulating menstruation, which in turns leads to a better chance of being fertile enough to eventual become pregnant.
Woman Can Keep Tabs on Their Guys – Fall and winter in the Dark Ages was a time where men spent a little more time at home, because not only did the weather become colder, it became darker sooner outside.
What better way to stay safe from wild animals who prowl at night and the bitter cold than calling it a night early?
Though we no longer live under the constant threat of being eaten by a bear, people do tend to spend more time at home in the Fall and winter months. If a couple is sharing time at home together, a woman can be more sure that her man isn’t stepping out with “Becky with the good hair”.
Hair, Cuddling, and Sweaters- Woman are normally always cold and the reason why is scientific, is we are blessed and cursed with a function that keeps more blood flowing to our reproductive organs than our extremities.
This function will keep a baby well supplied with warmth and blood during the probable occurrence of pregnancy, but it leaves us freezing!
During the fall, cuddling, less shaving, and sweaters are all acceptable. Each of these activities provide us with the warmth we normally lack.
Wolf Season is in Session– Guys look great with a clean shave, but there is something about a beard that makes any man a hundred times more attractive to a woman. Why?
The ablity to grow a beard indicates that a man has a high level of testosterone. Testosterone aids in the production of sperm. It is an evolutionaryly driven response for a woman to find a man with a beard attractive, because this indicator of fertility helps the human species grow.
In the fall, men are twice as likely to grow a beard than in warmer months for warmth (and No Shave November) and woman are twice as likely to say “Ooo La La”.
I personally can’t want for Wolf Season to be in session, it makes viewing my timeline that much more interesting.
Nesting, Home, and Hearth- Before giving birth and during ovulation, woman have a hormonal surge of progesterone and prolactin. These hormones are responsible for the nesting phenomenon.
Nesting is all about cleaning, decorating, and rearranging our living spaces. It was created to benefit a baby by making the home safer for a newborn, but when there is no baby it benefits partners and family alike.
What is fall and winter, but a big nesting feast: cleaning the home for the new year, readying Halloween costumes, cooking thanksgiving meals, and decorating Christmas trees. This kind of stuff is like Candyland for women.
Naturally, men are hunters and gathers who enjoy being out of the home. This event was evolutionary driven to ensure the male provided for the family so that they could survive, but woman are lovers of the home and hearth.
This natural occurrence ensures that the children and male counterpart are cared for so that the children can grow and further the species.
Fall and winter are all about the hearth and home- staying inside and taking care of the home.
More Time Indoors Means More Time for Other…Ahem… Things – I don’t need to go into detail with this one because I accept that you are smart, but it has been recorded that most babies are born in July, August, and September. Take your time and count back nine months. You might want to be careful with all that Netflix and Chill this Fall.
The Need to Nurture– Most women are born with this fierce desire to nurture something, Fall and winter months give us the perfect opportunity to do so.
Whether it’s dressing our pets in sweaters, bringing a dish to the family Thanksgiving gathering, playing Secret Santa at work, or giving out candy to the neighborhood trick or treaters. Even without kids or partners, us girls find creative ways to nature and love everything around ourselves.
The Break Down
The condition of being female is complex and those complexities all gather together to make basic chicks and baddies alike LOVE Fall.
If you like the content of this post pick up the book Sex at Dawn by Cacilda Jetha and Christopher Ryan which further discusses the evolution of the relationships among all things male and female from prehistoric times until now. It is a very interesting read that I highly recommend it.
There’s no more I can say to you now, but Happy Fall Y’all! I am off to finish my Pumpkin Spice Latte!
