Losing Sleep and Edges? How to Decided What’s Worth Stressing Over
Mood Music: Losing Sleep by John Newman and Losing Sleep by Boyz II Men
Like I’ve told you guys before I am easily inspired by everything and I do mean everything.
On Sunday night, I was viewing the trending topics on Twitter and one of the topics was the TV show Insecure. I have heard a lot of people raving about the show, so out of curiosity I clicked the topic.
One of the top comments was about the main character. Apparently, she had to choose between two very attractive guys and one Twitter user commented [paraphrased]:
If I was in the Issa’s shoes, I’d be losing sleep, edges, everything trying to keep up with these two fine dudes.
The comment had over three hundred likes and retweets and I see why- it was hilarious!
I love to laugh and when I find something really funny it’s not just funny for a few minutes, it’s funny for a few days.
In case you don’t understand the joke, edges are the fine hairs that grow around the premier of your head. Too much styling, stress, chemicals, gel, and over manipulation can make edges grow thin or fall out in women with curly/coily hair types.
Jokes about edges are always funny! Why? I don’t know, ask Black Twitter. The Twitter user was just basically saying that she would risk it all to be with those two hot TV characters and it got me to thinking.
What things in life are worth your stress, worry and time? What things are not worth your stress, worry, and time, but you still give of yourself?
Below Is a list of things you should and shouldn’t risk your sleep and your edges for.
What Not to Stress Over
Dead End People and Relationships
Dead end people are the people who do not truly care for you and are wasting space in your life. These include any one who is after your money, time, and affection, but aren’t willing to go to the same lengths for you.
Check out my articles Snakes in the Squad, Roses, and Emotional Vampires for more details about determining these kind of people.
Dead End Jobs
A dead end job is any career that you don’t feel refreshed about and isn’t how you’d like to spend the rest of your life.
Don’t stress yourself about any job that isn’t what you are called on earth to do. Instead, work your eight hours, do the best you can while there, but don’t take the job home in a mental or physical way – it’s a real waste of your time.
Money
Money is a thing that comes and goes. We all need it, but it isn’t something you can’t live without. If you know that you are working as hard as you can and still can’t make ends meet, pray about it, but never worry.
The bible states that the love of money is the root of all evil. If you spend all your time stressing over making, saving, and spending money, you’ll miss out on the beautiful things that are free like love, happiness, and eventually your life.
Having/Keeping A Romantic Partner or Friends
In the article Money Can’t Buy Me Love I explained that the people who are meant to be in your life are there willingly and you don’t have to do much to keep them, they will just stay.
If you find yourself in a situation where you are constantly concerned a person is going to walk out on you after you have done all you can to keep them happy, it’s possible that this person or people aren’t truly for you and they aren’t worthy of your edges.
As far finding friends and lovers, well they will come to you naturally and in due time. Stressing over what you don’t have isn’t going to help you find it sooner.
Appearance
It’s nice to look nice and feel good about your body, but spending a lot of time and money to maintain a look isn’t the best idea.
I know people who go into the hole financially to keep up with the latest styles and haircuts. There are some people I’ve never seen without make-up and there are the gym rats who take their fitness to extremes. But let me let you in on a secret, your physical appearance isn’t what’s going to help you grow in life. It’s not even going to help you develop and maintain healthy relationships.
What is most beautiful about a person is the interior. What’s the use of a beautiful car with no engine?
So, what is worthy of your Sleep and Edges?
Nothing! Philippians 4:6 (CEV) states:
Don’t worry about anything, but pray about everything. With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and requests to God. Then because you belong to Jesus Christ, God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace will control the way you think and feel.
So, there is absolutely nothing worthy of robbing you of your sleep or edges. However, there are a few things that it isn’t a bad idea to spend time cultivating
Things To Cultivate
Relationships with The People That Love You
The people who are meant to be in your life will stay there willingly, without bribery, but never take a person’s love for you for granted. Take some time to listen to them, spend quality time, and show your love in meaningful ways. It’s a gift that keeps on giving!
Your Purpose
God has given us all gifts, but every gift needs to be sharpened. Spend time practicing and perfecting whatever you were called on this earth to do. It will make you feel good knowing that you aren’t wasting your gift or timr.
Self-Reflection
It’s great to spend quite time soul searching and deciding how to be a better person- take yoga, keep a journal, read some self-help books, and pray.
Figure out what you need to change about you, so that you can help change the world.
The Break Down
In summary, there’s nothing that is worth wasting your time stressing and worrying about, but there are a few things that are good to spend time cultivating.
I hope you guys enjoy the rest of your week, I pray your sleep is peaceful, and with all my heart I hope your edges are forever intact.
I love you! Keep reading.
