Got the Work Week Blues? Have a Self-Care Night
Mood Music: Home from Work Playlist (Below this article)
We all have had that feeling, to quote Robin Thicke, “Stressed out, overworked, uptight, wound up.” The feeling that you are doing all you can to do a job, take care of family, or just survive.
Sometimes you need to say enough is enough and enjoy a pampering self-care night.
What exactly is a self-care night? It’s a night of pampering and relaxation- simply put, taking time for your own needs and damning the rest.
Guys don’t clock out of the conversation because you hear the word pampering, no matter how manly you are, a bubble bath is the cheapest form of therapy.
Follow the instructions below for one of the best nights of your life!
Self-Care Night Schedule
Wrap up your day early– Do whatever you have to do the get home by five ‘o clock. Whether it’s working a short day, coming straight in from work without making stops, or wrapping up your work a bit earlier, just get home!
You want to have enough time to do all the things you need to do to relax without feeling rushed.
Light some candles– Once you have arrived home, nothing sets the mood for relaxation like candles.
Dim all your overhead lights and let the candles throw romantic shadows all over your home.
Scented candles really have a way with helping you unwind. Find matching or complimentary fragrances that have a subtle not overwhelming fragrance.
Play music– Create a playlist and save it for such times as these. Find mid-to slow tempo songs to help set a very relaxing mood.
You know some Marvin Gaye, some Luther Vandross, a little Anita (LOL) -you get the point.
I suggest that you start with faster pace songs then end with the slowest of slows jams for when you are most relaxed and ready to call it a night.

Cook a meal – Nothing is more comforting than a home cooked meal. Take the time to prepare yourself something you really like.
If you aren’t a fancy chief, order in.
Plate your food and enjoy dinner by candlelight– Who says you need a partner present to unwind to a romantic candlelight dinner. Crank up the slow jams, light a few taper candles, and plate your food fancily.
We spend so much time eating from wrappers and Styrofoam we often forget the simple joy of a real plate, a wineglass, and silverware.
Pre-bath Treatments– Before you get down and dirty (or should I say clean?) with a nice luxury bath, the best thing you can do for yourself is a couple of pre-bath treatments.
A nice facial wash, a lip scrub, hand scrub, hair conditioning treatments, and dry brushing.
Pick a few or do them all, it doesn’t matter! This is your special night to relax, unwind, and enjoy yourself.
Luxury Bath– Now this by far is the main event! Go all out and don’t be afraid to soak until you literally prune!
For such a bath as this, you will need to first fill your bathtub with water and as it is running throw in Epson salt, a bath bomb and bubble bath.
Once the mixture is all warm, bubbly, and fizzy slip inside and melt. After a while, fine detail your body with a soap or body wash, then melt some more. End this plush experience with a body scrub and a light shower.
Make sure you have more great music, candles, low lighting and maybe even a refreshing drink. Allow your mind to totally let go of all the stresses in your life- let your troubles be a bubble!
Don’t fixate on any thought outside of total relaxation. You will emerge soft, clean, and probably a little drowsy.
Moisturize– That’s right- face, body, feet, hands- all of it! While your pours are still open, indulge in a thick fragrant moisturizer that will further soften your body and add to this self-pampering experience.
This is an awesome time to massage achy muscles with warm natural oils or lotions using a hand held massager or simply your own hands!
Get cozy– Slip into a nice robe, pajamas, and fuzzy socks or slippers. These items will trap in the warmth of the bath and the oiliness of the moisturizers to create incomparable skin relaxation.
Sit down and just relax– read your favorite book, watch a movie, catch up on some of your favorite shows, or don’t do anything at all! Enjoy not having to exert yourself physically or mentally just take some time enjoying being a couch potato.
Warm tea or a warm desert adds to the experience.
Go to bed early– Don’t get so caught up in your book or show that you stay up after midnight.
The whole purpose of this activity is to rest and be ready to take on the world tomorrow. Go to bed no later than ten and wake up relaxed, refreshed and feeling well cared for.
