Poem: Dear Future Husband
Mood Music: Dear Future Husband by Meghan Trainor
and Future Baby Mama by Prince
Dear Future Husband,
Penetrate
Liberate
Cultivate
My Mind.
Elevate
Emulate
Motivate
My Soul.
Fascinate
Rejuvenate
Regenerate
My Heart.
Change Me.
Make me see myself through your eyes and in them find beauty unknown. Make me see life not as a dying dove, but an eagle that mounts and soars higher than my highest view. Help me to see that every song doesn’t have to be a requiem. Let the notes inside you pour happiness into me. Change my opinion of me. Through you, show me the best version of myself.
Challenge me.
Don’t let me be too complacent with where I am. With love, push me to explore parts of myself that I never knew existed. Don’t let me accept failure like I deserve it, show me that I can achieve whatever dreams lie dormant in my head.
Let me.
Let me straighten your tie and wipe sweat from your brow. Let me hold you at night and allow me to listen to your fears. Don’t shut me out on what you feel, because I want to feel it too. Let me be your diary, your comforter, your daytime, and your muse. Let my love expound itself to permeate your very soul. Let not what you have or haven’t had before be the issue, as my love fills you in whatever way your soul demands.
Domestic me.
Let me cook for you and do the dishes. Allow me to hang up pictures in your home and light candles by our bed. Allow me to know the joys of washing bottles in the kitchen with messy hair and peak around the corner to see a baby fast asleep on your chest and a toddler playing with toy trucks on our floor. Allow my heart to smile after I tuck in your children, then slide into the covers next to you.
Love me.
Know that I am a flawed person and I cannot totally change myself for you, but I can love you. I can love you with the breadth and the depths of me, and I asked that you do the same. Love me when I look in the mirror and I cannot love myself. Love me when my eyes are smoky and my lips are red. Love me when the bags under my eyes are black and I haven’t had the energy to worry about my appearance. Love me when I anger you. Love me in my strength and love me when my strength evades.
Protect me.
From the dark images that light my mind in the night. Protect me from my poor image of myself. Shadow me under your wing, and kiss away every part of me that aches regardless of the cost.
Forgive me
Forgive my taste in Nat King Cole rather than rap.
Forgive my daily craving for chips and not vegetables.
Forgive me when I sometimes shut you out, but know that I will never shut you down. Forgive my faults and our misunderstandings and know that it’s all a mutual tool for growth.
Pray for me.
And with me and by my side. Let’s be the caretakers of each other’s souls responsible for each other’s eternal destination. Let’s sing old hymns together and be a modern example of Boaz and Ruth.
Know that.
I don’t pretend to know who you are, where you are, or what you are doing, but know that I am praying for you. Not praying that you come into by life, because that will happen in God’s perfect timing.
But I am praying for you in your current state- to be happy, to have a good day, to feel loved until I take charge of the job myself. I am waiting for you. Saving for you. Working for you. Changing for you. So that whenever we met, you will know with good reason God chose me for you before The Flood, The Fall, or The Foundation of the world.
I love you already,
Your Future Wife.
