Poem: Black, White, Red and Blue
Mood Music: Strange Fruit by Billie Holiday
Please use this poem as a moment of silent reflection for the African American men and boys who became victims of police brutality in America.
The American flag is bleeding Black
We’re being killed by the Blue.
Their Privilege is being White
A Red rose on the stone for you.
The robes of the victims are now White.
The families’ emotions are Blue.
Mourners gathered together in Black,
Bereaved by the crimes of the Blue.
They were entrusted to protect all people,
So why are the Blacks hated by those uniformed in Blue?
It’s like all the headlines that are Read,
Covers the stories of White abuse.
Why are the fatherless children all Black,
But White Families go on the same?
Red Blood sprawled on the pavement.
Blue skies now produce rain.
Red lipstick smeared across lifeless heads,
As Black mothers express their pain.
Creased White shirts inside of coffins,
Yet Blue forces feel no shame.
Human spirit was derived from White light,
Black victims and Blue donning officers are all the same.
But America has created an unnatural division,
That stops Red hearts for selfish gain.
The American flag is bleeding Black,
We’re being heinously murdered by the Blue.
Their only privilege is being White,
Red Roses on the stone for each of you.
Peaceful and holy rest to all the victims of the recent murders by police.
